About

The coach
behind the work

I’m Nick Ridpath. I built Unbranded Performance around a clear coaching philosophy: great training starts with an excellent understanding of training principles, and high-level coaching is knowing how to apply them to the person in front of you.

That approach has taken me from my own experience as a Division I football player to coaching professionals, high-level athletes, coaches, and people simply trying to get more from their training.

Better coaching starts with better decisions

The longer I’ve coached, the less interested I’ve become in chasing exercises, systems, or complexity for their own sake.

The fundamentals matter.

But what matters even more is knowing when to apply them, how to adjust them, and whether the person in front of you can actually execute the plan.

That is the foundation of how I coach today: understand the problem, make the right decision, and coach the details that turn a plan into results.

Experience across performance, sport, and training

My work has included NFL athletes, professional combat sports athletes, high-level college and high-school athletes, annual combine preparation, and physique competitors across professional and natural bodybuilding.

I’ve also spent a significant part of my career working alongside rehabilitation professionals and helping people transition from rehab back into productive training when recurring limitations have made progress difficult.

That range has shaped the way I coach.

Different people need different outcomes, but the job is still to understand what is in front of you and make the training fit.

Nick Ridpath coaching an athlete

From athlete to coach

Before I coached professionally, I played Division I football at William & Mary and earned my degree in Kinesiology.

Being an athlete shaped the way I think about performance.

Coaching has taught me that the best plan on paper means very little if it does not account for the individual, the environment, and what actually happens when training starts.

That perspective still influences every athlete, coach, and client I work with today.

Prescript

I also serve as an instructor with Prescript, where we educate coaches on the principles behind training, applied anatomy, and biomechanics.

That work has given me the opportunity to work closely with coaches at different stages of their careers and continually sharpen how I think about exercise selection, movement, programming, and the application of training principles in the real world.

The plan matters. The coaching matters more.

Everything in a program should have a reason.

Coaching is what turns the plan into something useful — seeing what is actually happening, giving the right feedback, making the right adjustments, and keeping the training moving in the right direction.

That is what I want people to get from Unbranded Performance.
